The mountain chain of Sierra Maestra is located in the eastern part of Cuba, close to Santiago de Cuba. There is the Gran Parque Nacional Sierra Maestra National Park, which is an ideal holiday destination for hikers and mountaineers with an area of around 40’000 hectares an ideal holiday destination for hikers.
The Sierra Maestra is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including many orchids, Tocororos, jutias etc. The mountains are particularly interesting along the coast of the Caribbean Sea, where the mountains fall steeply towards the sea and offer beautiful viewpoints. The highest mountain in the Sierra Maestra and at the same time the highest elevation of Cuba is the Pico Turquino with an altitude of 1974 meters.
